So the availability of books and music here is pretty much not what it's like in the States. It's a bit of a disappointment, I must to admit, though the lack of a megastore-ish varietyhs allowed me to find some great indie finds--very exciting! I went to a coffee shop earlier today for my usual tall vanilla cappuccino (I'm officially addicted, haha) when I saw this pile of a free 'zine called Beats. Inside included what the latest scoop was on the HK film, music, etc. scenes. I was heading back to the office, where I immediately MySpace sampled some recommended artists on the HK Charts and recently critiqued in this issue. Surprisingly, to my euphonious liking :), I found many new artists whose repertoire I can explore! That's how I ended up at HMV where I picked up copies of Amy Winehouse (Back to Black), Travis (The Boy With No Name), and Mika (Life in Cartoon Motion)--good stuff.
Ironically, at HMV, the perusers can be described as fobby hipsters (I'm not very nice, I know). Thick rimmed glasses, canvas messenger satchel, concert silkscreened tee, and funky kicks. I even feel very hipster-ish in this environment--perhaps it was my choice of outfit today: a black and white thickly striped Lacoste polo with khaki bermuda shorts finished with classic black Converse All-Stars with pink laddered laces and lilac ankle socks. I think this is the first time that I've worn pants out since my arrival, too. I guess I'm embracing my inner hipster here. Hopefully I won't go broke doing so, lol.
Shortly after, I went to Pacific Place, where I stopped at a Japanese department store called Seibu (I bought these really cute animated Japanese puppy postcards) and an Asian Whole Foods called Great Food Hall :)! They had this gelato bar--OMG, let me tell you, they have hazelnut gelato to die for (amongst other innovative flavors too)! It was definitely an orgasmic experience that I could pretty much equate to Meg Ryan's famous outburst in the film When Harry Met Sally with her sandwich while eating in a cafe with Billy Crystal, haha. So here's to my new loves--indie alternative and hazelnut gelato :)!
