So disconnected.

So my lovely Dell laptop decides to stop functioning in the wee hours of the morning four days ago. Something silly about a Windows setup file being corrupted. Great. Just what I need. Perhaps it's time to get a new one--maybe even an Apple laptop? Haha, I know I'm pushing it, but electronics, especially computers, are really only meant to last two years, no? Guess what? It's been two years already! I feel so disconnected (even more so than I did with the weak wireless signal earlier in the week, haha). Thankfully, I haven't been laptop-less--I've been borrowing Auntie Agnes's Apple PowerBook the last couple days.

I started my first day of interning at Blanc de Chine on Monday, mostly consisting of bank reconciliations--so exhilarating, I know, haha. It wasn't too bad though--it kept me occupied for a good while. I'm also reading up on a potential R&D project which will involve Alvanon, a global provider of strategic business solutions for apparel brands, retailers, and manufacturers. I'll be helping put together a cost-benefit analysis model to compare the company's current practices, which should be interesting. Also, I'm helping to analyze the company's current system of operations and seeing where the inefficiencies are. So, I pretty much have my hands full at this point. I'm excited about embarking on these new projects they've put me on. I'm looking forward to learning a lot the next four weeks.

There was a public holiday on Tuesday in celebration for the Dragon Boat (Tuen Ng) Festival--a day for patriotic remembrance, eating cakes, and dragon boat races. So I was able to have a dim sum breakfast with my godfather who has been visiting his father the last few days. Then, It wandered around Fa Yuen Street (famous for its "Ladies' Market") and Sogo, a high-end Japanese department store. I picked up a few things there--some stationery and a couple cute tops. Afterwards, I met up with Uncle Kin for another lunch with a friend of his, with whom he engaged in this profoundly elaborate conversation in Cantonese that I could hardly keep up with. Later on, Uncle Kin had her take me to Stanley, where they were holding corporate dragon boat races to celebrate the DB Festival. Although it was crazy crowded and super hot, the view of the beach was very nice (photos soon to come, as soon as I repair my poor Dell). After passing through the Stanley Market and Stanley Plaza, we took a taxi back to Central--the longest taxi ride in history, I have to say. It was bumper to bumper traffic trying to get out! Luckily, I made it back in time for dinner with Uncle Kin and his family.

It's certainly been an adventure the last three days. I promise that photos are soon to come!
